
Chris Murgatroyd
Senior Associate
Chris Murgatroyd is a senior adviser and team leader with more than 25 years of experience in governance and law, including in fragile settings. Chris has experience in all governance technical competencies, with a specialism in law and human rights, and across international development more generally. Chris is also a qualified Barrister with five years practice, and a trained Mediator.
With leadership and management roles in the British Government, Chris was Acting Deputy Director during the merger of DFID with the Foreign Office in 2021. Other roles included delivering and advising on multi-million pound projects in Asia and Africa, including research and MEL components of larger portfolios. Chris has lived and worked in Nepal, Bangladesh, Zambia, India, and the USA, and traveled extensively with oversight responsibility for country programms in West Africa and Southern Africa, South Asia and South East Asia, the Caribbean and other British Overseas Territories.
Chris's roles in government, and on secondment to UNDP, have included responsibility for policy development on governance and climate adaptation. Since leaving public service, Chris has focused his consultancy practice on governance, especially political economy analysis, PFM, and climate adaptation.
